Terms of Service
Last updated 29 August 2026
These are the terms you agree to by using Polygelato. We have tried to write them so that reading them is faster than not reading them.
What you get
A vocabulary tool. You type a word; it answers in every language you have chosen and, on the paid plan, explains how those words are related. Saved words go to a wordbank you own.
- Scoop
- Free. 100 lookups a month, 5 languages. No card, no expiry.
- Double Scoop
- $12 a month. 1,000 lookups, 12 languages, and connections.
A lookup counts against your allowance only when it costs us a language-model call. Repeating a word already in the cache is free and unmetered, always. Asking for connections on a word you already looked up is a second lookup, because it is a second call.
Allowances reset at midnight UTC on the first of each month. Unused lookups do not roll over.
Your words stay yours
We never delete, hide, or lock your saved vocabulary. Running out of lookups, letting a subscription lapse, or downgrading limits what you can look up next — it never takes away what you have already saved, and never stops you reviewing it. You can download all of it at any time, on any plan.
Paying, and stopping
Subscriptions are billed monthly in advance through Stripe and renew until you cancel. Cancel any time from your account page; you keep the paid plan until the end of the period you have already paid for, and are not billed again.
Refunds. If Polygelato is not what you wanted, write to us within 14 days of a charge and we will refund it in full, no questions. After that we refund the unused part of a month if the service was broken in a way that was our fault.
If a payment fails we will retry it over about two weeks and email you. Your account keeps working during that time. If it still fails, the account returns to the free plan — it is not closed, and nothing you saved is lost.
If we change the price or the allowances, we will tell you at least 30 days beforehand, and the change applies from your next renewal. You can cancel before it takes effect.
Fair use
Every lookup costs us real money, so there are limits on how fast requests can arrive. Ordinary use will never reach them. Do not script the service, resell access to it, or use it to build a competing dataset. We may suspend an account doing so, and will tell you why.
What we cannot promise
Translations and etymologies are produced by a language model. They are usually right and sometimes confidently wrong. Where the origin of a word is genuinely uncertain, we mark it as disputed rather than inventing a clean story — but do not rely on Polygelato for anything consequential: legal, medical, contractual, or safety-critical wording needs a human translator.
We aim to keep the service available but do not guarantee it. To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you paid us in the previous twelve months.
Ending it
You can delete your account at any time from your account page; it is immediate and cannot be undone. We may close an account that breaches these terms, and will give you a chance to export your words first unless the law prevents it.
The rest
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If a clause turns out to be unenforceable, the others still stand. If we update these terms we will post the new version here and change the date above; material changes get 30 days’ notice.
How we handle your data is covered separately in the privacy policy, which forms part of this agreement.
